Batten Kill Information Kiosk Construction at Route 313 Rest area near Cambridge, NY

Work was completed over two weekends in October and kiosk is now ready to tell visitors about the work done by Clearwater Chapter TU and its partners to restore the Batten kill watershed, help prevent aquatic invasive species, and protect our coldwater fisheries in the region.

Many thanks to the project leader Doug Howard for the idea & organization, and the construction team of Stan Duncan, Roy Lamberton, Bill Wemple, Bart Chabot, Scott Parker, Mike Walchko, Bill Cosgrove, and Art Coleman for their efforts, tools, and spirit of volunteerism.

Volunteers preassembling parts of a kiosk to be erected at the site of Public Fishing Rights (PFR) being acquired by NY State on Onesquethaw Creek. The legal requirements and easement transfer are expected to be completed in 2012. Significant funds are ready to be spent on habitat and stream stabilization projects once the PFR acquistion is complete. Public access and recreational use of the stream is one of the goals of the Watershed Management Plan recently completed by the Onesquethaw Coeymans Watershed Council (OCWC). Clearwater Chapter of TU is one of the founding members of the OCWC and a major contributor to OCWC work.

People interested in participating in the work of the OCWC or Trout Unlimited should email\call Roy Lamberton at 518 421-2500.
